Types of Forklift Course

When signing up for a forklift course, you can typically choose from the following:

1 Day Recertification

This training can be regarded as a touch-up for experienced forklift operators who wants to renew their existing forklift certificates.

2 Day and 3 Day Courses

If you have experience with operating forklifts, but you are not certified, these courses will be the best to give you a reliable and all-around knowledge to complete your certification.

4 Day and 5 Day Courses

If you have never been in contact or behind the controls of a forklift, these extensive courses will be ideal to help you obtain your forklift certification.

Legal Requirements for Training

Before you can be legally certified to operate a forklift, you have to meet the relevant legal requirements. You have to be at least 16 years old to operate a forklift legally. If you want to run a forklift in an industrial environment, however, you need to be at least 18 years old.

You also have to be healthy enough to operate a forklift safely. This health requirement is not explicitly defined in the regulations, but it is widely considered to mean that you should not suffer from any mental or physical condition that can impair your ability to operate a forklift safely.

 Training Essentials

Courses for forklift operation have certain training essentials that ensure safety and efficiency upon certification.

 Safety

Safety is one of the primary essentials of forklift training. Forklifts are powerful machinery and can potentially be dangerous or damaging in their vicinity of operation. When you undergo forklift training, you will be efficiently trained to operate a forklift in a manner that is entirely safe. Safety training involves proper inspection procedures, identifying and avoiding hazards, and safety of bystanders.

 Theory

During theory training, one obtains knowledge on the mechanism and design of forklifts. The physical design and mechanism behind forklifts will add to the efficient and safe use of equipment and ensure that operators have extensive and in-depth knowledge about how to use forklifts in a manner that adheres to government regulations and company policies.

 Practical Skills

It is important that the operator is comfortable and proficient when handling a forklift. This is especially important in small or crowded spaces. When you undergo forklift training, you will receive extensive practical training on the use of forklifts to ensure natural and effective operation at all times.
